Te Rauparaha was a New Zealand Maori Warrior Chief whose exploits are quite legendary. I've been working on a series depicting his life and this image is one I have used to practise his facial tattoo (moko) and get familiar with his features.
Every line and symbol in a Maori moko tells the ancestory and status of the wearer.
